Students participate in many local, district, state and national competitions. Examples include the District and State Rally, Speech Tournaments, Quiz Bowl, Science Olympiad, all of which provide students opportunities to compete at the local, district, and state levels. 

Activities such as spelling bees, art contests, essay contests, and Quiz Bowls are examples of other tests of skill.

Students in the science program at Belle Place Middle, Loreauville High, New Iberia Senior High, and Westgate High Schools participate in the Science Olympiad. Belle Place Middle and New Iberia Senior High place at the state level annually.
