Enrichment Activities

The Shadows Foundation Program

Each year the Shadows-on-the-Teche provides an educational enrichment program for first and third graders though programs entitled, "Charley's Christmas at the Shadows" and "Building a Foundation:  Looking to the Past to Appreciate the Future."

The first grade presentation "Charley's Christmas at the Shadows" includes an overview of the Shadows along with a tour and interactive activities.  These activities provide participants with a sense of what life was like in the 1800's.  Additionally, holiday cheer is spread through a comparison of Christmas now and then.

"Building a Foundation:  Looking to the Past to Appreciate the Future" is a ninety-minute program in Victorian architecture presented by means of drama, slides, a walking tour, and hands-on exploration.  Participants include all third graders in the parish.  The complete experience of living history and architechture is informative, fun, and stimulating.  Our students reflect on the past to appreciate the future.

Educational Theater

The Project Educational Theater program offers classics written and adapted for grades 1-6 by noted screen and television writers. Examples of plays presented include Beauty and the Beast, Tom Sawyer, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pinocchio, and Snow White. These plays are specially adapted to hold the attention of young audiences. They include music, love, humor and adventure. This program is cultural and aesthetic in nature. Our elementary students are exposed to quality performances for a well-rounded educational experience. Many of our elementary schools participate in this program.
