Tasha Jolivette-Jones Named Louisiana Department of Education's Elementary Teacher of the Year

Tasha Jolivette Jones' ClassroomTasha Jolivette-Jones has been teaching Kindergarten in Iberia Parish for 13 years.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science/Communications (2001), a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education (2006) and a Master of Education in Special Education (2012) from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette.  Jolivette-Jones is lead teacher for Pre-K and Kindergarten at Coteau Elementary.  Here, she works diligently to ensure that children of diverse abilities, ages, interests, and cultures learn together in the same classroom.  As a member of the Iberia Parish Kindergarten Committee, she helps to develop curriculum and assessments, to provide professional development to colleagues, and to ensure uniform implementation and pacing of instruction throughout the district.  She mentors new teachers in the areas of classroom management, inclusion, and developmentally appropriate practice.  Jolivette-Jones is an advocate for play-based learning in the early years of school.  An avid researcher of early education, she works with families, teachers, and administrators to increase awareness of the benefits of play and to protect playtime for young learners.  Read More >>
